While Geminis are often called the chatterboxes of the zodiac, Sags can give those twins a run for their money. This vibrant sign is the girl at the party whom all the other guests wants to talk to and, heck, even embody.
Do you know that friend—the one who seems to know everyone, and if she doesn’t, she will soon? Well, she might be a Sag! The list of celebrity Sagittarius signs are full of famous peeps you’d want to hang out with: Sarah Hyland, Miley Cyrus, Chrissy Teigen, and even pop princess Britney Spears herself! (Fiery queen of my heart Taylor Swift is also a Sag—more on that later!)
But FYI: Sagittarius is a more complex sign than most people realize. Not to mention, there’s a lot more on the astrological front that goes into your personality, like your natal and progressed charts, your moon sign, and your Saturn return...I could go on, but let’s just say if your sun sign is Sagittarius, it's a BFD.
Meet the experts:
Donna Page, is a certified astrologer in Atlanta.
Cristina Panescu is a Tarot Card Reader, Spiritual Healer, Psychic, and Empath from Psychics1on1.com, a digital platform that connects people with New Age Healers.
Valerie Mesa is a professional clairvoyant astrologer, soul coach, and writer based in Miami.
Especially now, since Sagittarius season runs from November 22 through December 21. With those chilly months coming up sooner than you'd think, let’s take a deep dive into the personality traits of the archer sign. Reading your monthly horoscopes or just, ya know, living your life can give you some insight, but if you're new to astrology or just want to take your zodiac obsession to the next level, you should know about the traits that are quintessentially Sag.
Here are the major signs you’re a Sagittarius—and how being a Sag sister can impact your life, according to experts.
1. You want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Yes, sometimes the truth hurts (Lizzo tells no lies). But you know deep in your gut that knowing what’s really up is better than being lied to—even if that means being told you can’t pull off head-to-toe red leather. "Sags are all about being very honest and being around people that are willing to tell the truth," Page says.
Sagittarius signs will always find the truth, Panescu adds. They don’t distort reality, and easily attract friends and sympathy.
A Sag sis might even, I don’t know, pen a 10-minute ballad about a man who did them wrong to spread the good word, a la Ms. Swift. (Cue "All Too Well"—Taylor’s Version, natch.)
2. You don’t want to be tied down to anything.
The easiest way to get rid of a Sagittarius? Ask them to commit to something FOR LIFE. The idea of being at one job or with one person forever can be a little…much to take. That doesn’t mean you can’t commit—you just want to make sure you’re really (really) sure about something or someone before you go all in. "Sags have an essence of not wanting to be trapped," Page explains.
This is why you’ll rarely find a Sag tied down to an office job, says Panescu. "They are attracted to any profession that involves movement, novelty, and fun," she notes. Think: journalists, pilots, and performers.
3. You like to do a little of everything.
It’s crucial for you to try new things and have the freedom to go wherever you want, whenever you want. Life's too short to not get out there and experience it all.
PSA: Anyone who tries to hold you back is definitely going to get steamrolled.
4. You want to be a walking encyclopedia.
"Sags have a hunger for knowledge," Page says. You crave travel and adventure, all while picking up new tidbits along the way. Weekend trip to Arizona to stay in a yurt and do sound-bath meditations? You’re there. Spontaneous trip to Iceland to look for the Northern lights? Sign you up. This is the person in your life who always down for whatever.
Oh, and you might as well stop off at a townie bar to see what local life is ~really~ like, too. "You know you’re a Sag if, when life starts to implode on you, you go away for the weekend to see someplace you’ve never been and you come back completely recharged," Page says.
5. You’re idealistic.
You can thank this trait for leading you into your more interesting adventures. Because Sagittarius is a gregarious, trusting sign that sees the best in everyone, they "are always looking for new things, unique places, and special people," Panescu says.
This sign can live life through rose-colored glasses, which is one of the many reasons they are so attractive to other signs, says Panescu. Just, uh, remember to take those glasses off before taking a weekend getaway with that random guy you met at a friend-of-a-friend's party last week.
6. You’re the life of the party.
Speaking of meeting people at parties... not to brag or anything, but people are just drawn to you. Thanks to all your adventures, you’re a kickass storyteller (see: yurt trip), and you can regularly blow people away with your one-of-a-kind tales.
"[Sagittarians] are always in the spotlight," says Panescu. "They have fun as if it is their last night."
You’re also naturally hilarious and totally magnetic. So, yeah, it’s pretty great to be you. But you already knew that, didn't you?
Sagittarius Sign Compatibility
Sagittarians are most compatible with other fire signs, like Aries and Leo, but they also tend to be compatible with air signs, like Libra and Aquarius, especially because they’re all very social. “They're masculine elements,” says Valerie Mesa, a professional clairvoyant astrologer, soul coach, and writer based in Miami. “It doesn't have to have anything to do with gender per se, but they just vibe—it's different from a water sign energy.”
But they have a complicated relationship with Gemini, its mirror sign. They challenge each other, but also complement each other and still have an attraction. Geminis like to focus on the details, while Sagittarians look at the big picture. “I think a lot of the Kanye and Taylor Swifts—but there's chemistry, there's kind of mystery,” she says.
On the other hand, Scorpios and Sagittarians might not have as easy of a time getting along. “Scorpio prefers to stay fixed and kind of keep to itself. Sagittarius wants to venture out and go on adventures and live life to the fullest and be spontaneous,” says Mesa. But it’s hard because they’re a pretty go-with-the-flow type of sign. “Other signs would be affected by Sagittarius more than Sagittarius is affected by other signs,” she adds.
Sagittarius Is A Mutable Sign
Mutable signs tend to be versatile. Every sign has a different modality, a.k.a. a “rhythm” or “tempo” to the sign. So timing-wise, the mutable signs occur at the end of each season (the others are Pisces, Gemini, and Virgo). “It's almost like kind of like gathering the last bit of whatever needs to happen—they're movers, they're very adaptable,” Mesa says, citing Rihanna as an example. “Even though she sang for many years, she's like, ‘Well, no, I'm gonna have my own my Fenty, my makeup, my beauty line—she completely switched it up and people never know what they're gonna get with her.”
Sagittarius Is A Fire Sign
Fire signs are intuitive, but not like water signs—they use their intuition when it comes to taking a leap of faith or risk. “Fire is symbolic of creativity, fertility,” Mesa says. They have a desire to “express its passion, which is why so many fire signs are so creative and which is why they also have bad tempers.” For Sagittarians specifically, they’re jokesters and know how to get a rise out of you, and they’re also the ones to get everyone hyped up in social situations.
Sagittarius In The Workplace
Sagittarians are versatile and quick on their feet because of their mutable energy, but they also enjoy taking risks and trying different things, and they’re adaptable and competitive. They’re “the most evolved fire” to Mesa because they’re the last fire sign. However, their mid-heaven sign (the career sector) is Virgo, meaning they take on Virgo’s workplace skills. Their work is pristine, and it’s because of their passion for their projects. “They have this ability to compartmentalize what it is that they're trying to achieve and they just make it happen,” says Mesa.
But everyone’s got a weakness of some sort. Sagittarians tend to be procrastinators, Mesa says. “They live on the edge, they have that optimism,” she says. “They can skim through a book and show up the next day in class and pass the test with flying colors.” But because of that, structure and timeliness might be a bit difficult, and they can also be a bit messy because, fire sign.
And yet, they’re still loveable, because, let’s face it—they’re the life of the party. Even in an office space, Sagittarians will be the coworker throwing the holiday party. (Which is helped by the fact that its days fall between Thanksgiving and Christmas!) “They like to have different groups of friends, they like to show up for people, they like to spread joy,” says Mesa.
